Gaining popularity in San Francisco’s competitive live music scene, and now poised to continue to expand their fan base nationwide, the mello-psych trio Wax Statues combines various genres and influences into a confluence of unique sounds resulting in a quintessentially colorful and energetic verve that rifles through their songs and live sets.
Wax Statues was founded in 2018 by guitarist and vocalist Cam Gibbons, Bassist Dominic Colombini and drummer Christian Miceli. Using influences from 60’s jangly surf rock, to synth-soaked 80’s pop, Wax Statues formed and coined their own subgenre of psychedelia – Mello-psych. During the past two years, and in other forms, the band has worked the San Francisco live venue circuit hard. Live shows from Wax Statues are made to be a spectacle using glitchy psych visuals, vocal harmonies, and multi instrumental performances.
Wax Statues’ name came in a flash of inspiration. The name suggests connotations of impermanence, leaving the implications to the listener. The band members list among their biggest musical influences Dr Dog, White Denim, The Beach Boys, Mild High Club, and Pink Floyd.
