The Klipptones are one of San Francisco’s top party and event bands, founded in 2010 by bandleader Josh Klipp. Josh was born into a Mississippi gospel choir and grew up on a steady turntable diet of Marvin Gaye, the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Mathis, Walter Hawkins, Janet Jackson and more. His father played piano and mom was a singer, and childhood classmates teased Josh for being a Von Klipp (like the “Sound of Music” family, the Von Trapps…see what they did there?). In college, Josh got into hip hop dance, and ended up not only teaching a class for many years, but also started a small company that performed for countless street fests and fundraisers.
Flash forward to 2018, and The Klipptones’ genre crossing energetic performances reflect the movement and diversity of music Josh grew up on and loves – from Sinatra to Childish Gambino to the Rolling Stones and everything in between. Along the way The Klipptones picked up killer female vocalist, Mayra Swatt. A Bay Area native, Mayra brings not only her hot vocals to the stage, but also her ability to perform in multiple languages (as only the Bay Area do!). The only thing bigger than Mayra’s voice is her heart, and she wears it on her sleeve when she performs.
Together, Josh and Mayra front The Klipptones at swanky San Francisco joints like the Starlight Room, Top of the Mark and more. The Klipptones have also opened for Superbowl halftime performers Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and NYC’s swing revival band, the Hot Sardines; and their star studded list of corporate clients reads like a NASDAQ’s who’s who and blah blah – what sets The Klipptones apart is how much they love creating music that makes the world a little more loving one song at a time.
